If you want to keep up with the latest trends in home décor, then Instagram can offer a helping hand. As people share their favourite designs and products, emerging trends can be spotted.

One home accessory that has taken the social media channel by storm, and has been spotted in the homes of many interior and style icons, is the Moroccan-inspired black-and-white rug. These floor coverings exhibit a stylish criss-cross design and can complement many different colour schemes.

Interior designers and fashion experts alike have voiced their approval of the monochrome rug, which is said to create the illusion of space.

The authentic Moroccan Beni Ourain rugs, that feature geometric patterns on a white or cream base cost around £1,000 each. They were traditionally woven by Berber tribes living in the Atlas Mountains.

However, the good news is there are many more affordable versions of these shaggy rugs now on the market (SEE BELOW).

“This style of rug has returned as an on-trend item into our home interiors because of the move towards a more contemporary look within interior design,” interior designer Maurizio Pellizzoni told Mail Online.

“One that particularly shies away from minimalism into maximalism for 2018.

“The diamond shape in this pattern can add a geometric dimension to the room and the monochrome design creates a tridimensional effect, which creates the illusion of space very effectively.”
